through which one engages with the museum's architecture and collection.

Saturday 1st December
Secs, Emily Wardill
Fulham Palace, Bishps Avenue, London SW6 6EA
1 Dec 2007 - 26 Feb 2008
Open Sat 11am - 2pm, Sun 11.30am - 3.30pm, Mon&Tue 12 - 4.

Secs, a 16mm film, draws its inspiration from the English Episcopal
portraits ? the exalted and conformist painting style and convention,
evident between 16th and 19th centuries and characterised by strict
pictorial format and strong iconography. Making use of contemporary
visual language, Wardill links these recognisable portraits to the
silhouette image of the anonymous interviewer, as seen on
investigative television reports, while the narration of the film
makes a direct reference to coinage and its historical role in
distributing monarch portraits.
The film is echoed by photographic images of the interviewer(s),
devised as production stills for the accompanying film, and
intensifies the enigmatic nature of both the anonymity of the
interviewer and the unfathomable characteristics of the actual film.
